As
the lazy days of summer
give way to the hustle
and bustle of fall I
am reminded of how fortunate
we are to live in a
part of the country
where the seasons change
so dramatically. The
slight chill in the
air brings about a renewed
sense of urgency as
we rush to the stores
to buy school supplies
or an extra sweater
or two to complete our
fall wardrobes. We remove
the fading summer blooms
from our patio containers
and replace them with
hardy fall flowers.
The pitcher of iced
tea in the refrigerator
becomes a jug of apple
cider almost overnight.
Many
of the kids heading
back to school this
fall will notice that
the landscape is significantly
altered next to Wellesley
High School as the dream
of a new school building
is becoming a reality.
We visited Wellesley
High School during this
past school year to
capture images of the
current high school
building, and we’re
happy we were able to
include the famous clock
tower on this issue’s
cover. I’d
like to thank all of
the Wellesley High School
students from the theatre
department who participated
in our photo shoot.
Whether
you’re
headed back to school
or back to work after
a summer vacation, this
issue has plenty of
helpful information
and articles featuring
the interesting people
in our towns. Our “Ten
Tips for Packing Healthy
Lunches and Snacks” provides
some wonderful ideas
for nutritious foods
to give your children
the fuel they need to
get through their busy
days and after-school
activities. In “Sustainability
is the Lesson of the
Day!” we
visit some of our local
schools and learn about
how our young people
are learning about caring
for the environment
and even becoming its
stewards through a variety
of innovative sustainability
programs at all educational
levels. And in our “Artist
Profile” we
meet some amazing young
artists who recently
exhibited their award-winning
work at the Wellesley
Free Library.
The
record number of submissions
we received this issue
for our “Inbox” and “About
Town” departments
certainly proves the
point that there is
a lot going on in Wellesley
and Weston, even over
the seemingly quiet
summer months. If you
have information or
photos to share for
either department, please
send your news items
and photos to Jill@wellesleywestonmagazine.com.
(E-mail submissions
are preferred, and please
limit them to 2mb with
any photo of a resolution
of 300dpi.) We will
also publish your news
and events on our blog,
wwmblog.com.
Enjoy
this issue and all of
the exciting changes
brought about by this
dynamic season.
